Go Easy Travel Celebrates 20 Years as a Global Member

This year, Global member, Go Easy Travel is celebrating 20 years as part of Global Travel Group! So, we caught up with owner Issy Wiggins to get a better insight into what the last 20 years has meant to her.

Q. When did you join Global Travel Group?

A. April 1999

Q. Tell us about your experience so far and how this helped the growth of your travel business.

A. Before I joined, I was responsible for international car hire for Thrifty Car rental both inbound and outbound. Travel Agents were part of our sales growth as we introduced a holiday car hire program offering prepaid car hire. I decided to set up my own prepaid car hire and as this begun the need to offer additional services such as airport car parking etc. I had already met the guys from Global at trade events, so decided to sign up.

My experience working in a franchise industry helped me, as back then the support was a lot less than what you get from Global HQ today. However it is exploring destinations, specialising and networking that has helped to grow my business, with the support of Global Travel Group. The great thing about the Global set up is that you can do as much as you want and in life crisis moments, as little as you want.

Q. What do you wish you knew then, that you know now?

A. I think I would have held back before getting my first shop. I signed a contract on a 10 year lease and the next week September 11 happened. It was a tough time getting through that period only to be hit by ash clouds and Tsunami disasters. That’s travel and I think you need to always save for that rainy day to keep you going.

Q. What tips do you have for anyone thinking about becoming a travel agent?

A. You have to be willing to learn. Only jump in if you have the knowledge and the drive. It’s a tough market out there and experience and knowledge will win you the business. Or an existing database of clients that you know are ready and willing to book with you.
